Buckley Hulme was born in Longlow, Staffordshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 38th Regiment at Newcastle on 6 February 1822, aged 19 years. With the regiment he served in Ava 1824-26 and was wounded by a gunshot through the left wrist in 1826. On 4 January 1836 he suffered an accident to his right forearm. He was on board a steamer coming down the Hoogley River when a spar fell and lacerated and severely damaged his arm. Returning home he was discharged on 18 May 1836 as being permanently unfit for further service. Was later a Chelsea Pensioner. With copied service papers.
