Pair: Private W. Douglas, 8th Battalion Royal Highlanders, late Scottish Horse, killed in action, France, 21 March 1918

William Douglas was born in and enlisted at Aberdeen. As a Private in the 3rd Scottish Horse he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 18 August 1915 and thus qualified for the 1914-15 Star (not with lot). He later transferred to the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch). Serving with the 8th Battalion in France he was killed in action on 21 March 1918, aged 21 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. He was the son of Mr & Mrs Alexander Douglas of Granitehill House, Queen’s Road, Aberdeen.

Sold with Infantry Record Office letter confirming death; named memorial scroll; slip to accompany the British War and Victory Medals; slip to accompany the Memorial plaque (not with lot); papers re. dependant’s pension; four letters of reference to Alexander Douglas (one repaired) and copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
