M.M. London Gazette 13 September 1945. ‘For gallant and distinguished services in Burma.’

Recommendation reads: ‘Throughout the ops leading up to the capture of Tiddim wireless communication to out-lying companies never failed. This was due in large measure to the ability and constant hard work of Niak Piar Singh, who has acquired a skill in affecting repairs to No. 48 sets much more than expected from a regimental Signals N.C.O.

On several occasions this N.C.O. has been in charge of signal parties moving with detached companies. Never once have his out-stations been out of touch with bn H.Q.

This N.C.O. displayed his skill and cool confidence under fire on 13 Oct, when enemy were preparing to assault tps operating behind the Jap position at MS 160. At this critical moment the F.O.O’s wireless set was found to be out of order. Naik Piar Singh calmly went to work and having repaired it, established communication with the guns. The resulting fire broke up the attack and enabled the Coy to extricate itself from a dangerous situation.’
