James Wogan was born in Athlone, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. A Book Binder by occupation, he attested for the 67th Regiment at Westminster on 21 August 1866, aged 18 years for a bounty of £1. With the 67th Regiment he served in Burma, October 1872-April 1875 and the East Indies, December 1878-February 1888. Wogan attained the rank of Sergeant-Major in August 1887. He was released having claimed retirement on 12 July 1893. Appointed to Yeomen of the Guard in 1898. Awarded the M.S.M. without annuity as Yeoman of the King’s Bodyguard by A.O. 132 of 1919.
