Sidney Ray Farquharson was born in Finsbury Park, London, on 4 April 1886. An Accountant by occupation, and a Provisional Lieutenant in the 101st Edmonton Fusiliers (Militia), he enlisted in the C.E.F. in November 1914. Arriving in England as a Captain in the 50th Battalion in October 1915, he went out to France in March 1916, where he was posted to the 29th Battalion - “Tobin’s Tigers” - and was invalided with shell shock early in the following month. He was discharged in August 1919; sold with copied service papers.
