Simon Alexander Fraser was born in Gore Bay, Ontario, on 8 December 1890. Enlisting in the 51st Battalion at Edmonton in February 19155, he was posted to France with the 49th (Edmonton) Battalion, his subsequent bravery in action winning him the Military Medal (London Gazette 6 January 1917 refers), probably for his services at Sanctuary Wood. Sadly, however, he was killed in action on 30 October 1917 during the battle of Passchendaele. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial; sold with copied service papers.
