Gavin Clarkson was born in Dalry, Edinburgh. As a member of the Queen’s Rifle Volunteer Brigade, he attested for one years service in the Royal Scots at Edinburgh on 4 February 1902, aged 20 years, 1 month. With the Volunteer Battalion Royal Scots, he served in South Africa, February-September 1902. With copied service papers and roll extract.
