Arthur Stanley Hardwick was born in London on 16 October 1895. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at York on 14 May 1912. Served at Dunkirk Chatham Battalion R.M.L.I. until November 1914 then served on the armed boarding steamer H.M.S. Fiona, November 1914-April 1917. Discharged on 6 February 1920 and lived in Durham. Awarded the Coronation Medal 1937 as a Flight Sergeant serving at No.1 Armament Training Camp.
