Robert Alham Sargent was born in 1884. Employed as a Farrier, he enlisted on 8 November 1915, serving as a Farrier Sergeant in the R.F.A. He was transferred to the Army Reserve on 18 May 1919.
With original certificate of Transfer to the Reserve; registered envelope for medals addressed to ‘Mr R. A. Sargent, 7 Friar St., Lancaster’; newspaper clipping announcing the award of the M.S.M.; a typed letter of thanks, dated 13 April 1919, signed by the Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the 33rd Brigade R.F.A.; two contemporary postcards - one of Sargent in uniform; modern photographs (4) of Friar Street; copied newspaper extract announcing the retirement of Sargent as the last Farrier operating in Lancaster, 29 January 1965; with copied gazette and roll extracts and m.i.c.
