Sergeant James Stanley served in Lieutenant-Colonel Wyndham’s Company, 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards in the Waterloo campaign. The 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards defended and held Hougoumont throughout the day of the battle, suffering 55 killed and 249 wounded.
