Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Java (Richard Grant, Lieut. R.N.) very fine
Captain Sir Richard Grant, Kt., was born in 1783, son of the late Richard Grant, Proctor at Jamaica. He entered the Navy in 1798 and was present at the reduction of Java in September, 1811, aboard the President, commanded by Captain Samuel Warren. His last command was the St. Vincent, flag ship at Portsmouth of Sir Charles Ogle, which appointment he resigned in 1846 and went on half-pay. Sir Richard Grant was Knighted on the presentation of a civic address in 1820.
