South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (1629 Sergt., 2-21st Foot); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (1629 Cr. Sergt., Rl. Scots Fus.) both fitted with silver ribbon buckles and sold with a Fusiliers’ grenade cap badge, good very fine (3)

William Wall was born at sea and enlisted at Dublin at the age of 15 in November 1862. He served in the South African campaign of 1879 having been promoted to Sergeant four years earlier, and was awarded the long service medal in 1882 having attained the rank of Colour-Sergeant. In that same year he transferred to the Permanent Staff of the 1st Dumfries Rifle Volunteers and, five years later, in quick succession, he transferred to the King’s Own Scottish Borderers and to the Royal West Surrey Regiment. He was finally discharged at his own request on 23 February, 1897. Sold with full confirmation and copy service papers.
