Edgar Howard Leadley was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, on 12 August 1898. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman on 29 October 1916. Served on Dreadnought, March 1917-August 1918. Then served at Victory I, August-October 1918, followed by service at Greenwich (Scapa Flow) on the destroyer Vampire, October 1918-May 1919. Demobilised on 11 May 1919. He re-entered the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman on 22 June 1939. With copied service paper.
