Charles Gibb was born in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland. A Grocer by occupation, he attested for the Cameron Highlanders at Inverness on 30 June 1896, aged 18 years, 4 months. With the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders, he served in Gibraltar, March-October 1897; Egypt, October 1897-March 1900, and South Africa, March 1900-October 1902. In addition to the above, he was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902. Transferred to the Army Reserve in June 1908, he was discharged having completed his engagement on 29 June 1912. With copied service papers and Sudan medal roll extracts.
