Sydney Walter Griffiths was born in 1887. He enlisted into the Shropshire Light Infantry at Shrewsbury on 3 May 1905. With them he served in India, February 1906-November 1914; France, November 1914-November 1915; Salonica, November 1915-January 1918 and Aden, October 1919-December 1923, being attached to the Supply & Transport Corps from July 1920 and attached to the Indian Army Service Corps from April 1923. Posted to the I.A.S.C., Griffiths then served in India from July 1928, retiring as a Conductor on 3 February 1939.
