Gunner L. R. Shury served in the Motor Machine Gun Section - Royal Artillery - manning the guns in tanks. In the Second World War he served with the Dorset Civil Defence.

With slips to accompany the Civil Defence L.S. Medal, dated November 1961 - at the time Mr Shury was living at 11 Belvidere, Weymouth, Dorset. Also with three letters re. his retirement from the Dorset Civil Defence in 1963 - one of these giving a similar address to the above, the other two giving ‘42 Rodwell Road, Weymouth, Dorset’.
