Charles John Helbert Helbert, who was born in London in April 1864, was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal West Kent Regiment (Militia), from which unit he gained a regular commission as a Lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in January 1886. Embarked for India in the latter year, he was present in the Burma operations of 1886-87 (Medal & clasp), following which he resigned his commission and rejoined the Militia with an appointment in the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers. Advanced to Captain in September 1893, he was given the honorary rank of Major in July 1902 and was C.O. of No. 4 Company at the time of his death in January 1903; sold with copied research.
