Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (Lieut. W. H. Partridge, 49/Co. 9/Impl. Yeo.), good very fine £180-220

William Hamp Partridge, the son of William Bailey Partridge of Llanfpoist, was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Monmouthshire Militia, R.E., in October 1890. Having then been advanced to Lieutenant in June 1892, he resigned his commission in March 1895. With the advent of hostilities in South Africa, however, he gained appointment as a Lieutenant in the 9th (Welsh) Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry and was drafted to the 49th (Montgomeryshire) Company. It was in this capacity that he was present in the actions fought at Dredepoort, Onderstepoort and Haman’s Krall in August 1900, during the course of which he was wounded. He was invalided home in October 1900 and resigned his commission in March 1901; sold with copied research.
