Frederick Balsom, who was born in Exeter, Devon, enlisted in the Monmouthshire Regiment at Pontypool. A Private in the 2nd Battalion, he embarked for France in early November 1914 and became one of the unit’s very first casualties: he was shot dead by a sniper on the 23rd. Balsom is buried in Calvaire (Essex) Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert; sold with copied research.
