Alfred Edgar Hannam was born in Cardiff and enlisted in the Welsh Regiment in July 1892, aged 18 years. Advanced to Corporal in October 1894 and to Sergeant in September 1896, he witnessed active service with the 1st Battalion in South Africa in the period November 1899 to May 1902, and was awarded the above described Medals and clasps. he was discharged at his own request in August 1910, about which time he received his L.S. & G.C. Medal; sold with copied research.
