Thomas Hepburn was persuaded to join SHANNON’s Naval Brigade as an A.B. on 13 August 1857, and was one of the seventy Merchant Seamen who volunteered and were signed aboard SHANNON that day from such men in the port of Calcutta. He was paid off from SHANNON on 15 January 1859 when she arrived back in U.K. waters.
