John Harry Robson Lowe (1905-97) was the most famous professional philatelist and stamp auctioneer of his day. Regarded by many as the father of postal history, he started in the business in 1926 and founded his own firm in Regent street, London, in 1928, which relocated to Pall Mall in 1940. Post-war, he removed to Bournemouth and the firm staged many important stamp auctions there before being acquired by Christie’s in 1980
