George Tuck was born in Newton Abbot, Devon, on 27 September 1855. He first entered as an Assistant Clerk aboard H.M.S. SULTAN on 15 July 1871, promoted to Clerk in September 1872 and remained there until February 1876. Subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships REPULSE (1876-77) where he was promoted to Assistant Paymaster in September 1876, SHAH (15 February 1877 to 1 December 1878) and witnessed the action with the Peruvian Rebel Turret Ship HUASCAR during May 1877. For his Egyptian awards he was aboard H.M.S. BEACON (21 July 1880 to 30 June 1883) and H.M.S. STARLING (15 October 1886 to 15 January 1890) where he was promoted to Paymaster on 3 October 1890. Whilst taking passage aboard the P & O vessel ARCADIA to join H.M.S. MARATHON, he died on 21 February 1892.
