James Randell was born in Seven Oaks, Kent, and attested for the 14th Light Dragoons at Bedford, in July 1806. He deserted 15 June 1807, only to rejoin and be pardoned 7 August 1808. He was discharged 19 December 1831, having served 24 years and 131 days with the Colours.
