William Owen Lyne entered the Navy on 15 July 1875. He commanded the survey ship WATERWITCH throughout the operations in China. He retired as Commander in 1907 but was recalled in 1914 and served as Coaling Officer at H.M.S. PRESIDENT 1914-17, for which he has no medal entitlement. He finally retired with the rank of Captain in November 1918 and died in the early Nineteen Twenty’s.
