The Norfolk Regiment 2nd Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1896-1902, a very fine example, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet Britannia, double title scroll below ‘The Norfolk Regiment’ ‘2nd Volunteer Battalion’, the plate is original to the helmet, buff leather sweat band with crimson silk lining, together with its japanned metal carrying tin this with brass plaque ‘F.H.Allen, 2nd V.B. Norfolk Regt.’, slight loss of green cloth lining to both peaks otherwise in very fine overall condition (2) £500-700
Note: F.H.Allen 2nd Lieutenant 16th December 1896, Lieutenant 7th September 1898, had left the Army by February 1903, saw service in South Africa and was later a Lieutenant in the ASC during WWI.
