South Africa 1834-53 (Lieut. S. W. Hall. 73rd Regt.) fitted with silver ribbon brooch, light edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise better than very fine £600-700

Samuel William Hall was gazetted Ensign in the 73rd Foot on 27 May 1842, and promoted to Lieutenant, by purchase, on 23 September 1845. He served with the 73rd during a portion of the Kaffir war of 1847, and was Barrack-Master of British Kaffraria during the war of 1852-53 (Medal). He was latterly Barrack-Master at Cape Town and afterwards at Portsmouth until 1864 when he was transferred to Canada, becoming Principal Barrack Master at Montreal in January 1870, and afterwards at Nova Scotia. In 1876 he was appointed Assistant Commissary General, ranking as Lieutenant-Colonel, and Principal Barrack Master at Dublin. He was placed on Half Pay as Deputy Commissary General and Hon Commissary General in July 1878 and retired in 1886.
