Samson Smiley attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and served with the 48th Stationary Hospital during the Great War. He died in Egypt on 26 December 1917 and is buried in Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

Sold together with Buckingham Palace enclosure.
