Stefanus Lodewyk Pienaar was born in 1922, and was a native of Alberton, Transvaal. He enlisted in the South African Medical Corps, aged 18, in June 1940. Pienaar advanced to Corporal in April 1941, and was killed in action during the North African campaign, 21 January 1943 (two days before Tripoli was captured by Montgomery). Pienaar is buried in the Tripoli War Cemetery, Libya.
