New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated ‘1860 to 1861’ (G. Newman, Lg. Seamn. H.M.S. Iris) edge bruising, otherwise very fine

Born in Essex in 1834. He only served one Commission in the Royal Navy, joining H.M.S. IRIS on 2 April 1858 as a Leading Seaman, thus proving that he was an experienced prime seaman from the Merchant Service, and was discharged to shore on 3 August 1861.
