Arthur William Street was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Hampshire Regiment, from the Inns of Court Officers Training Corps, on 24 October 1915, and was promoted temporary Lieutenant on the same day. He served during the Great War with the 8th (Isle of Wight Rifles) Battalion as part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from 12 January 1916, and was awarded the Military Cross for service in Palestine whilst attached to 75th Battalion Machine Gun Corps.
