320315 Corporal Norman Maeers was killed in action in Libya on 12 December 1941. The 1st King’s Dragoon Guards served in the 1st Armoured Brigade from September 1939 to January 1941, and then transferred to the 3rd Armoured Brigade. On 8 April 1941, after heavy losses in men and equipment, the Brigade withdrew into Tobruk and formed a composite tank regiment for the garrison, serving throughout the subsequent defence which ended on 10 December, when most of the garrison were either killed or taken prisoner.
