William Charles Knock was born on 29 June 1898, at Lavenham, Suffolk, and enrolled in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as an Ordinary Seaman on 16 February 1917. Drafted into the Hood Battalion on 9 July 1917, he was rated Able Seaman the following day. He was killed in action on 25 August 1918 and is commemorated by name on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais.
