Thomas Henry Heard was born in Burnley, Lancashire, in 1877 and attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps. Transferring to the South Wales Borderers, he served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds at No. 57 Field Ambulance on 25 July 1916, a day when the 1st Battalion fought the action at Munster Wood, suffering nearly 80 casualties and receiving numerous gallantry awards. He is buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Frank Ribbon was born at St. Mary’s, Pembroke, in 1875, the son of William Henry Ribbon (Professor of Music) and his wife Agnes Maria, and attested for the South Wales Borderers. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 November 1914, and was killed in action at Givenchy on 14 January 1915. He is buried at Woburn Abbey Cemetery, Cuinchy, France.
