K.R.R.C.); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 1 clasp, South Africa 1902 (7244 Pte. J. Best. K.R.R.C.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (7244 Pte. J. H. Best. K.R.R.C.) edge nicks and light contact marks, nearly very fine, KSA scarce as a single clasp award (4) £500-£700
J. H. Best attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, and served with the 1st Battalion in India at the Relief of Chitral, and in South Africa during the Boer War. He was invalided back to England 8 October 1900, but returned for active service in South Africa in early 1902, thus qualifying for the King’s South Africa Medal with the single clasp ‘South Africa 1902’.
