Thomas Henry Cunningham was born in Houghton, Arundel, Sussex, in 1878 and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester on 8 June 1897. He served with the 1st Battalion in Malta from 9 September 1899, and then in South Africa during the Boer War from 19 February 1900 to 14 December 1902. After two years’ further service in India, he returned home on 7 January 1905, and transferred to the reserve on 12 January of that year. He was discharged on 7 June 1909, after 12 years’ service, and died in Chichester on 3 March 1952.
