H. F. B. Nickolds attested for the Middlesex Regiment and served during the Great War in the Egyptian theatre of War from 24 August 1918. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Labour Corps on 17 January 1918, and was appointed Adjutant, No.1 Labour Group, on 14 January 1919.
