Frank Malcolm Smith was born in Petersfield, Hampshire, in 1901, and attested for the Royal Army Service Corps on 2 February 1920. He served with the R.A.S.C. in Mesopotamia from 30 April 1920 to 11 February 1922 qualifying for his ’Iraq’ clasp. He later served in Sierra Leone in 1924 as a Lance Corporal, and was promoted Corporal on 19 February 1926 in “Q” Company. He was commissioned Lieutenant (Mechanist Officer) on 7 December 1940, and was promoted Captain (M.O) on 1 January 1949. He retired on 7 October 1955, and died in Chichester, West Sussex, on 28 June 1983.
