John Edward St. George was born in Co. Kilkenny in 1864, and joined the Royal Irish Constabulary on 19 April 1887. He was advanced District Inspector on 1 June of that year, and was appointed Private Secretary to the Inspector General on 6 May 1903. He subsequently served as Resident Magistrate of Kilmallock from 26 September 1908.
