Richard Fielding Edwards was born on 10 January 1866, son of General C. A. Edwards, Colonel 18th Royal Irish Regiment. He was educated at Cheltenham and R.M.A. Woolwich. Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, 1885; Captain 1894; Major 1902; Lt.-Col. 1910; Colonel 1913; Secretary R.E. Institute, Chatham, 1897-1902; Commanding Mersey Defences 1914-18; Chief Engineer, Malta, 1919-22; Military Member of Executive Council of Malta, 1919-21; retired 1923. He died on 19 December 1942.
