Greek Coinages, KINGDOM OF MACEDONIA, Alexander III: Stater, struck posthumously under the Satrap Peithon at Babylon, c. 315-10

Obverse: head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet without decoration on bowl, hoop earring and cord necklace

Reverse: βασιλεωσ αλεχανδρου: Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; monogram in wreath below left wing

Metal: gold; Attic weight standard; 8.57g/7h

Condition: Trifling metal flaw in obverse field, otherwise extremely fine, of superb style and residually lustrous; the variant very rare £2,000-£2,600
