Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1090. Sergt. J. E. Barber. 4th. Husrs.) with contemporary top silver riband bar, very fine £80-£120
John Edward Barber was born in Norwich in 1852, and served with the 4th Hussars. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in c.1885, and was advanced Sergeant Major in 1891, and Troop Sergeant Major in 1893. In later life he was the publican of the Brazen Serpent Public House in Bermondsey, London, and then proprietor of the Alexandria Hotel in Folkestone, Kent. He died in Folkestone in 1915.
