Charles John Clark was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire in February 1874. He joined the Royal Navy as a Painter 2nd Class in July 1894. Clark served with H.M.S. Gibraltar, March 1901 - June 1902, and advanced to Painter 1st Class in October 1902. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. in July 1909, and demobilised in May 1919.
