Alexander Hugh Jenkins was born in Saltley, Birmingham in 1895. He enlisted as an Air Mechanic Second Class in the Royal Flying Corps on 3 December 1915 and served in France with them from 19 December 1915 to 23 November 1916, reaching the rank of Flight Sergeant on 1 September 1916. He served the remainder of the Great War with the R.F.C. and R.A.F. Home Establishment. Jenkins served from 1939 to 1946 as Wing Commander of the Bristol and Gloucester Air Training Corps, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was appointed Lord Mayor of Bristol in 1960. He died in Weston-super-Mare in 1979.
