ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE, OBE., 2nd type; SOUTH AFRICA WAR SERVICE MEDAL, with silver Protea emblem, King's Commendation (S.A.); VOLUNTARY MEDICAL SERVICE MEDAL with extra long service bar, named; French Red Cross, silver service medal, top clasp, CROIX ROUGE FRANÇAISE, named on reverse. Together with gilt and enamel Honorary Life Member's badge of the South African Red Cross Society, named on reverse, good very fine (5)
Mrs. E. Cicely Phillips was Hon. Secretary of the London Committee of the South African Red Cross Society from its formation in 1941 until January, 1943, when she became Chairwoman. She held this position until 1963, when the London Committee ceased to function. For her services to the Red Cross during the war Mrs. Phillips was awarded the O.B.E., and was elected an Honorary Life Member of both the British and South African Red Cross Societies. She was awarded the Voluntary Medical Service medal in 1961, presented to her by the South African Ambassador in London.
