Colonel Graham Cludde Herbert was present with the Royal Fusiliers in the Afghan War in 1880, and took part in the defence of Kandahar including the sortie of Deh Khojah (medal). He was promoted Colonel, Commanding 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, 3 September 1905.
