Colonel Woodburn Hunter served with the Nile Expedition in 1884-85, and was present in the engagement at Abu Klea on the 16th and 17th February, 1885 (mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt. Colonel, medal with clasp, and Khedive's Star). This battery became 176 (Abu Klea) Field Battery, R.A. in honour of the action at Abu Klea on 17th January, 1885.
