Lieven Gevaert, Belgian photographer, founded L. Gevaert & Cie in Antwerp in 1892. The company went public in 1920 as N.V. Gevaert Photo-Producten, merging with Agfa AG of Leverkusen, Germany, to form the Agfa-Gevaert Group in 1964. Today, the group is subsumed within the Bayer Corporation in the USA
