A post-War M.B.E. group of five awarded to Chief Engineering Officer W. Turnbull, Mercantile Marine

(Civil) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, silver, in Royal Mint case of issue; British War and Mercantile Marine War Medals (William Turnbull); 1939-45 Star; War Medal 1939-45, in named card box of issue, addressed to ‘Mr. Wm. Turnbull, 190 Prince Consort Road, Gateshead-on-Tyne’, extremely fine (5) £180-£220

M.B.E. London Gazette 2 January 1950: William Turnbull, Esq., Chief Engineering Officer, S.S. “Parkwood” (Constantine Steamship Line, Ltd.)

William Turnbull was born at Otterburn on 24 December 1883 and served during the Great War as a Second Engineer in the Mercantile Marine. He saw further service in the Second World War, and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 1950 New Year’s Honours’ List. He died in 1955.
