James Watt (1736-1819), the universally known scientist and engineer, generally regarded as the father of the steam engine, was buried at Handsworth, 2 September 1819.
The Blue Coat Charity School, St Philip’s Churchyard, Birmingham, erected in 1724 and rebuilt in 1794, was demolished in 1935 when the School removed to Harbourne
